New Member Training Seminar The VES New Member Training Seminar provides students with the knowledge required to actively participate in the society. Upperclassmen in the Society teach weekly seminars throughout the semester to prepare potential new members to be able to perform as an analyst in the society. The Seminar is open to all undergraduate students of the university regardless of year or major, and it’s completion is required in order to gain full membership into the society, however, completion of the New Member Training Seminar does not guarantee membership into the Society. Students may join the first semester of their freshman year if they wish, and if selected, can be considered full members by the second semester of their first year at Villanova. Freshmen do not have a disadvantage over sophomores, and it is not unusual for a significant portion of new members each semester to be freshman. Topics Covered in the New Member Training Seminar include: -Market Microstructure: How do stocks trade? -Financial Statement Analysis -Important Resources Available to the Student Analyst -Methods of Fundamental Analysis -Methods of Technical Analysis -Valuation: Value Investing and Comparative Multiples -Modern Portfolio Theory - Bringing it all Together: How to Write a Recommendation In addition to the weekly seminars, students are broken into groups to compete in a virtual stock portfolio competition. The competition gives students the chance to put into practice what they learn. |
